Here is a letter I received from Grandmother Elspeth. Hope to see you there :)

Dear people,

I hope this letter finds you well in body and in spirit. I'm reaching out to you today to let you know about an amazing event we are planning for June of this year. It is called GreenSong, and it is a celebration of my 81st birthday, complete with music, fellowship, and workshops; all dedicated to one cause - changing our focus and shifting the future.

You are part of this special group because you are on my mailing list. I want you most especially to be part of this celebration, so please consider joining us by both attending and by helping to get the word out. Remember I will be 81 only once!

GreenSong's mission is to foster music that promotes a harmonious relationship between individuals, and between humans and the natural world. Our goal is to help the power of song play a more significant role in shifting human values and culture, leading to a greater compassion for all beings, a deeper acceptance of personal responsibility, and a more frugal use of resources.

How to Make Spiced Wine

This is a great winter drinking alternative to hot toddy's and brandy

Spiced Wine

1 bottle of red wine (can even be an inexpensive brand)

1 Tablespoon cardamom

3 cinnamon stick

1 tsp whole cloves

1/2 orange or lemon peel

honey (or other sweetener)

Heat, do not boil! The ingredients are really to taste, so play around with them. Otherwise, you can either add all the ingredients as is, then sieve, or add them to a cloth teabag. After heating, let it steep for about 30 minutes. Serve warm in a mg with a thin slice of lemon and a cinnamon stick

When I was a puppy, I entertained you with my antics and made you laugh. You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes and a couple of murdered throw pillows, I became your best friend. Whenever I was "bad," you'd shake your finger at me and ask "How could you?" - but then you'd relent, and roll me over for a belly rub.

My housebreaking took a little longer than expected, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. I remember those nights of nuzzling you in bed and listening to your confidences and secret dreams, and I believed that life could not be any more perfect. We went for long walks and runs in the park, car rides, stops for ice cream (I only got the cone because "ice cream is bad for dogs," you said), and I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day.

Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a human mate. I waited for you patiently, comforted you through heartbreaks and disappointments, never chided you about bad decisions, and romped with glee at your homecomings, and when you fell in love.

She, now your wife, is not a "dog person" - still I welcomed her into our home, tried to show her affection, and obeyed her. I was happy because you were happy. Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement. I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them, too. Only she and you worried that I might hurt them, and I spent most of my time banished to another room, or to a dog crate. Oh, how I wanted to love them, but I became a "prisoner of love.

As they began to grow, I became their friend. They clung to my fur and pulled themselves up on wobbly legs, poked fingers in my eyes, investigated my ears, and gave me kisses on my nose. I loved everything about them and their touch- because your touch was now so infrequent - and I would have defended them with my life if need be.

I would sneak into their beds and listen to their worries and secret dreams, and together we waited for the sound of your car in the driveway. There had been a time, when others asked you if you had a dog, that you produced a photo of me from your wallet and told them stories about me. These past few years, you just answered "yes" and changed the subject. I had gone from being "your dog" to "just a dog" and you resented every expenditure on my behalf. Now, you have a new career opportunity in another city, and you and they will be moving to an apartment that does not allow pets. You've made the right decision for your "family," but there was a time when I was your only family.

I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the animal shelter. It smelled of dogs and cats, of fear, of hopelessness. You filled out the paperwork and said "I know you will find a good home for her." They shrugged and gave you a pained look. They understand the realities facing a middle-aged dog, even one with "papers." You had to pry your son's fingers loose from my collar as he screamed "No, Daddy! Please don't let them take my dog!" And I worried for him, and what lessons you had just taught him about friendship and loyalty, about love and responsibility, and about respect for all life. You gave me a goodbye pat on the head, avoided my eyes, and politely refused to take my collar and leash with you. You had a deadline to meet and now I have one, too.

After you left, the two nice ladies said you probably knew about your upcoming move months ago and made no attempt to find me another good home.

They shook their heads and asked "How could you?"

They are as attentive to us here in the shelter as their busy schedules allow. They feed us, of course, but I lost my appetite days ago. At first, whenever anyone passed my pen, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you - that you had changed your mind - that this was all a bad dream...or I hoped it would at least be someone who cared, anyone who might save me. When I realized I could not compete with the frolicking for attention of happy puppies, oblivious to their own fate, I retreated to a far corner and waited.

I heard her footsteps as she came for me at the end of the day, and I padded along the aisle after her to a separate room. A blissfully quiet room. She placed me on the table and rubbed my ears, and told me not to worry. My heart pounded in anticipation of what was to come, but there was also a sense of relief. The prisoner of love had run out of days. As is my nature, I was more concerned about her. The burden which she bears weighs heavily on her, and I know that, the same way I knew your every mood.

She gently placed a tourniquet around my foreleg as a tear ran down her cheek. I licked her hand in the same way I used to comfort you so many years ago. She expertly slid the hypodermic needle into my vein.

As I felt the sting and the cool liquid coursing through my body, I lay down sleepily, looked into her kind eyes and murmured "How could you?"

Perhaps because she understood my dog speak, she said "I'm so sorry." She hugged me, and hurriedly explained it was her job to make sure I went to a better place, where I wouldn't be ignored or abused or abandoned, or have to fend for myself - a place of love and light so very different from this earthly place. And with my last bit of energy, I tried to convey to her with a thump of my tail that my "How could you?" was not directed at her. It was you, My Beloved Master, I was thinking of. I will think of you and wait for you forever. May everyone in your life continue to show you so much loyalty.

Color ~ a key to understanding your personality

What does the following reveal about who you are?

White: Symbolic of purity, innocence and naïveté, white has strong connotations of youth and purity. If you are an older person, your preference for white could indicate a desire for perfection and impossible ideals, maybe an attempt to recapture lost youth and freshness. It may also symbolize a desire for the simple life.

Red: The color of strength, health, and vitality, Red is often the color chosen by someone outgoing, aggressive, vigorous and impulsive—or someone who would like to be! It goes with an ambitious nature but those who choose it can be abrupt at times, determined to get all they can out of life, quick to judge people and take sides. Red people are usually optimistic and can’t stand monotony; they are rather restless and not at all introspective, so they may be unaware of their own shortcomings. They find it hard to be objective and may blame others for any mishaps. Quiet people with a preference for red may feel the need for warmth, strength and life-giving qualities of the color, or they blanket their true feelings under a sober exterior. Red is usually chosen by people with open and uncomplicated natures, with a zest for life.

Maroon: Harsh experience has probably matured the Maroon person into someone likable and generous. It is often a favorite color of someone who has been battered by life but has come through. It indicates a well-disciplined Red personality—one who has had difficult experiences and has not come through unmarked but who has grown and matured in the process.

Pink: This color embodies the gentler qualities of Red, symbolizing love and affection without passion. Women who prefer Pink tend to be maternal. Pink desires protection, special treatment and a sheltered life. Pink people require affection and like to feel loved and secure, perhaps wanting to appear delicate and fragile. Pink people tend to be charming and gentle, if a trifle indefinite.

Orange: This color of luxury and pleasure appeals to the flamboyant and fun-loving person who likes a lively social round. Orange people may be inclined to dramatize a bit, and people notice them, but they are generally good-natured and popular. They can be a little fickle and vacillating, but on the whole they try hard to be agreeable. Orange is the color of youth, strength, fearlessness, curiosity and restlessness.

Yellow: The color of happiness, wisdom and imagination, Yellow is chosen by the mentally adventurous, searching for novelty and self-fulfillment. Yellow usually goes with a sunny and shrewd personality, with a good business head and a strong sense of humor. It is the color of intellectuality and all things to do with the mind. Yellow folks are usually clear and precise thinkers who have a good opinion of their own mental capacities and who have lofty ideals. They may at times tend to shun responsibility, preferring freedom of thought and action.

Green: The color of harmony and balance, Green symbolizes hope, renewal and peace, and is usually liked by the gentle and sincere. Greens are generally frank, community-minded people, fairly sociable but preferring peace at any price. Green people can be too self-effacing, modest and patient, so they may get exploited by others. They are usually refined, civilized and reputable.

Blue: Soft, soothing, compassionate and caring, Blue is the color of deliberation and introspection, conservatism and duty. Patient, persevering, conscientious, sensitive and self-controlled, Blues like to be admired for their steady character and wisdom. They are faithful, but are often worriers with somewhat inflexible beliefs and can be too cautious, and suspicious of flamboyant behavior.

Blue-Green: Exacting, discriminating, poised and attractive, the Blue-Green person tends to be sensitive, intellectual and refined, persevering and stable if rather detached. Blue-Greens have excellent taste, and are usually courteous and charming, capable but often refusing help or guidance.

Turquoise: Complex, imaginative and original, Turquoise people drive themselves hard and may be in a state of turmoil under their outwardly cool exterior.

Lavender: This is often chosen by a person who lives “on a higher plane,” who never notices anything sordid and who is always impeccably and beautifully dressed. Lavender people may be on a continual quest for culture and the refined things of life, high and noble causes but without the necessity of getting their hands dirty. A Lavender person is usually creative, charming, witty and civilized.

Purple: Purples are highly individual, fastidious, witty and sensitive, with a strong desire to be unique and different. Temperamental, expansive and artistic, a Purple person may become aloof and sarcastic when misunderstood. If you chose Purple, you tend to be unconventional, tolerant and dignified, likely to achieve positions of authority.

Brown: A Brown person has stamina and patience, tending to be very solid and substantial, conscientious, dependable, steady and conservative. Browns are not impulsive, and may be inarticulate and tactless but they love responsibility and are reliable and kindly. If you chose Brown, watch out for a tendency to be obstinate and inflexible.

Gray: The color of caution and compromise, diligent Grays search for composure and peace and often work hard without reward. Older Grays like life to run on an even keel with few ups and downs. Young Grays may be withdrawing from life and suppressing their personalities. Grays often have good business ability and tend to work too much.

Black: Dignified and impressive without being showy, Black people want to give the appearance of mystery, but their preference may also indicate a suppression of desires and worldly aims, suggesting hidden depths and inner longings.

Flying Dreams

Last night I had a dream I was flying, so I looked it up to see what it could mean.

It seems flying dreams can be interpreted in a number of ways, but in general it can be seen as your spirit rising high , freed from limitations and boundaries.

A dream in which you fly suggests that your mind is reaching for new heights .The flying dream often happens when there is advancement in your life or can indicate optimism about your future.

In order to understand the possible meaning, you must look at all the factors of the dreams. How high were you flying? Was it easy to fly or turbulent?

In my dream I was flying easily, the sky was blue and I felt exhilaration. According to the information I found it suggests that I am on top of a situation. I have risen above something. It may also mean that I have gained a different perspective on things. Flying dreams and the ability to control your flight is representative of your own personal sense of power.

I hope I fly again soon as it was the first time and just incredible!

Grandmother Elspeth is just returning from a ten city speaking tour out west that she did in March and April, and then a presented at a new event in Ann Arbor, MI.

She said it was a "wild experience" as Nybor and her two cats accompanied her.

This is not a man I have met, but his artwork hangs in my home, with pride. His partner and his wife is Elspeth who we featured previously. Nybor's artwork comes alive and is just beautiful and mysterious.

I have “Storyteller” in which our beautiful Elspeth is the model. If you are not familiar with his art, here is a link to his webpage of art works.

It seems Nybor has been creating masterpieces for the past 50 plus years. He received his art training at the Minneapolis School of Art. After a stint in the U.S. Navy (1958-62) he worked in art studios in Minneapolis and New York as a commercial artist. As James Odbert (his other persona) he became well known for his science fiction art.

Through the years, Nybor's work has won many awards, including "Artist of the Year" by the WPPA several years running. His painting "Kiss of Ages" was Judges Choice at the Millenium Philcon World Science Fiction Convention in Philadelphia in September 2001. His works may be found in publications, art shows, galleries, festivals and many homes.

Nybor also created a Tarot Deck. In 1985, Nybor not only began the drawing of the Tarot Deck (after some 15 years of research); he also developed his own unique style and techniques for other art. The art in the deck is his older, more graphic style. The tarot deck was published in 2001.

He is an incredible artist, teacher, spiritualist and respected elder.

Few of our cultural elders in America ever reach the status of "Living Legend" but 80-year-old Grandmother Elspeth has most certainly done so. Her reputation for honest advice and earth-based "mountain wisdom" draws throngs of people, young and old, male and female, to gather in her teaching circles, as she travels around the country, weaves tales, startles us with her homespun humor and heals us with her imagematic journeys of the spirit.

Author of the beloved poem "The Challenge," and creator of the long-awaited double CD "Out of the Forest," Elspeth Odbert has been conducting workshops on spiritual growth and enrichment since 1991. Opinionated and outspoken in everything she does, she is a great-grandmother, environmentalist, healer, teacher, pastoral counselor, shamanic practitioner, "wild woman," and storyteller. An honored Elder in the Pagan community and co-founder of The Haven Way, an eco-spiritual path of personal and planetary transformation, Elspeth is a living example of the timeless truths that she teaches.

Planting by the Moon

People have been planting by the moon's phases for centuries. Moon planting, or planting by the moon, as it is also known, has been a method of gardening practised by the most ancient of cultures. They knew when to plant and when to harvest, because they planted by watching the lunar phases and so created moon gardens long before it became the popular practise it has become today.

The moon planting rule says to plant crops that produce above the ground during the increasing light of the moon (from new moon to full moon)

The first week is especially good for crops that have their seeds on the outside, such as asparagus, cabbage, broccoli, celery and spinach. The second week (between the 1st quarter and the Full Moon) is best for crops that produce seeds on the inside, like peppers, tomatoes, peaches, cucumbers and melons.

Then plant crops that produce below the ground during the decreasing light of the moon.
(from full moon to new moon). plant root crops such as potatoes, peanuts, carrots and onions.

Plant your seeds within 48 hours before a full moon.

Do not plant on the day of the New Moon or Full Moon.

I have met Stephanie Rose Bird via Twitter and I find her very intriguing and captivating. She is an African American green witch, pagan, artist and author. While researching her I found her very well written and informative and decided she would be a great artist to feature. I’m looking forward to reading her books and hope we can have her as a guest again in the future.

A Meditation on Honey: Sweet Medicine of the Mind, Body and Spirit

In this blog I am meditating on the various mind, body, and spiritual uses of honey. This is an excerpt from my book The Big Book of Soul: the Ultimate Guide to the African American Spirit: Legends & Lore, Music & Mysticism, and Recipes & Rituals.

Honey: Sweetness of the Goddess and the God

One of the most endearing images of honey in my memory was the unifying element in the novel The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd. In this tale set in South Carolina, three sisters named May, June, and August take in a white girl named Lily and her housekeeper Rosaleen. Gradually, they allow the two newcomers into their spiritual world, which includes synchronized rituals with a circle of women, celebrating the Black Madonna and freedom from slavery using honey. They ceremoniously pour honey over the head of the Black Madonna who is chained. As the honey drizzles down the statue’s body, the chains loosen. The Black Madonna, like the black people, enjoys the sweetness of freedom.

In real life honey has a rich history in Africa. Honey use weaves through ancient Egyptian apothecaries, recipes, and ritual devotion. It was an important ingredient in Kyphi, unique Egyptian incense used to pay homage to the God Ra and Goddess Isis, which also contains dried fruit, red wine, and resins. Honey was used to mix a kohl solution to paint the eyes. It was also used cosmetically in hair and facial care.

Honey across Africa Today

West Africa: In Mali, soume is an alcoholic drink derived from honey. Soume is consumed from a calabash. Around the calabash and under the influence of soume, young people learn the secrets of their community. The elders gather around the soume-filled calabash to brag, remember and gossip.

East Africa: The Samburu people mix milk from their cattle with honey and pour it as a libation for spiritual blessings of the land. They use blood from the cattle and honey as a libation in a land cleansing rite. They have done this publicly in recent times as a gesture of peace with neighbors with whom there have been land disputes.

Southern Africa: The Bemba people of Zambia in Southern Africa enjoy grain and honey as an important part of their sustenance.

Honey in the Sacred Life of the Diaspora

Caribbean and the Americas: In the Black Atlantic, the honey Orisha is Oshun; in Brazil, Oxun; and in Cuba, Ochun. Oshun, as I like to call her, is invoked to bring healthy children, easy childbirth, love, sensuality, beauty, refinement, and sweetness. The people of Trinidad and Tobago Islands demonstrate how honey of Oshun is used in blessing, ritual, and ceremony.

• They prepare it with water, brandy, olive oil, and sugar and place it in a calabash as an offering to Oshun during some thanksgiving rites.

• Devotees consume an offering that includes duck, honey, olive oil, sugar, and brandy.

• A libation of honey, lavender, brandy, and olive oil is poured in honor of Oshun, also called Goddess of Water Powers and sometimes referred to as Saint Philomene.

• A honey dressing is rubbed on a bamboo pole to invoke the spirit of Oshun.

• A table is laid with honey, a calabash, candles, grains, and flowers to honor Oshun.

Honey is a rich part of story, history, song, dance, ritual, and economic opportunity for Africans and people of African descent. It is also a tasty way to sweeten teas and baked goods, allowing us to cut down on sugar consumption. Honey is sensual and it is useful in lovemaking rites as an edible body balm. It is also an excellent cosmetic, making an easy facial that controls oily skin, a soothing instant lip balm (just apply to cracked lips directly), a wound and burn healer and because it is antimicrobial and antiseptic it can be applied directly to cuts. There are so many things we can do with honey. It is a supreme mind, body, spirit healer, and as its uses in African diasporic healing demonstrates, it is one of nature’s great gifts to soulful wellness.

Susan, of Fantasy clay is a talented artist. I took some time to browse her shop and was truly amazed at her work. She is a must see artist!

Susan, how long have you been creating your clay figures and such?

I have been working with polymer clay for about 10 years now and have taken over the first floor of my house with it. My workspace is our table so I need to be able to move it quickly. Just waiting for the day I can have a craft room (hint, hint kids- move out soon)

So you make them yourself?

All items are 100% hand made, no molds are ever used. Each piece is one of a kind, but similar items can often be made.

Where are you located?

I'm from New Jersey, I live in a small city in the New York metro area. Unlike some, I really like living in a city. Just something about it. I like having everything close by.

What is your family life like?

I've been very happily married to my college sweetheart for more than 20 years now. He still makes me smile by just coming in the room. We have 2 teenagers, actually the oldest will be 20 in a few months. Both are good kids and both are great at giving me ideas for my work, directly and indirectly.

What types of items do you make?

Dragons, Magical Creatures, Fairies, Pixies, Mermaids, Steampunk ,Jewelry People/ Figurines, Monsters, Trolls, Animals, Game Pieces, Geekery, Magnets, Wall hangings, Switch Plate Covers, River Rock Beads and Seasonal/ Holiday

What do you use to create them ?

Polymer clay is my favorite medium. I am always finding something new to try. I love making sculptural and fantasy creatures but I try not to let myself get boxed in. I have started making beads and exploring more cane work recently. I love to explore colors and enjoy trying new materials to enhance my work, like mixed media, inks, mica powders. It always seems like these creatures have their own personalities that have nothing to do with what I want.

Do you do custom orders?

I especially enjoy custom orders. I am willing to try anything, so feel free to ask. 99% of the time, you are under no obligation to buy if you are not satisfied with the work. The only exception might be for a personalized piece.

Carpet Fresh for Witches

I found this recipe in the book, "The Way of the Hedge Witch, Rituals and Spells for Hearth and Home" by Arin Murphy-Hiscock.

This powder features ingredients that clear negative energy as well as having the practical bonus of absorbing bad odors and refreshing your physical environment. You can also sprinkle it on fabric covered furniture. It's nontoxic, so it's safe around pets.

1c. baking soda
½ c. salt
2 tbsp mint
1 tbsp dried lemon peel
1 tbsp lavender
1 tbsp rosemary
1 tsp cloves

1. Ground the salt, mint, lemon, lavender, rosemary and cloves in a mortar and pestle, or in a coffee grinder/blender reserved for crafts use.

2. Combine the resulting powder with the baking soda.

3. Sprinkle it over carpets and floors and allow it to rest for at least two hours, preferably overnight.

4. Vacuum or sweep it up. Discard the contents of the bag or dustpan outside.

Love Potion Tea

Best time to cast spell: Make the tea on a Friday or during the Waxing Moon.

1 pinch of lavender
2 teaspoons of earl grey tea
3 pinches thyme
3 pinches nutmeg
3 pinches cinnamon
1 squeeze fresh lemon
3 cups pure spring water (it must be spring water)
Honey to taste

Casting the spell:
Place all ingredients in tea kettle. Boil three cups of pure spring water and add to the kettle.
Before drinking, recite this magical rhyme:

BY LIGHT OF MOON WAXING BREW THIS TEA TO MAKE [lover's name] DESIRE ME.

Drink some of the tea and say:

GODDESS OF LOVE HEAR NOW MY PLEA

LET [lover's name] DESIRE ME!

SO MOTE IT BE

Then , brew another pot of the love potion tea and give some to the person you want to love you deeper.

Expected results: Whoever drinks the tea will have their feelings towards you deepen.

Before beginning the dream pillow, decide what you will be using it for: to repel bad dreams, strengthen your prophetic abilities, rest and healing, etc. Choose your dried herbs and oils according to the pillow's use

Take two pieces of cloth or felt in the appropriate color and size that you want and sew up three sides, inside out (using appropriately colored thread). Mix your herbs (and oils if you choose) together in a glass or wooden bowl. Turn your pillow right side out and stuff it. Stitch the forth side closed. Its that easy!

Keep in mind, the following lists are not inclusive, but will get you started. Be creative with your pillow. You may also add in stones, crystals or fetishes. Then tuck it in your pillowcase, set on nightstand or hang over your bed.

Whether we’re a vibrant Orange, or a peaceful Blue, our color preferences are a key to understanding our personalities. Find out what this color expert has to say about your favorite color. What does it reveal about who you really are?

White: Symbolic of purity, innocence and naivete, white has strong connotations of youth and purity. If you are an older person, your preference for white could indicate a desire for perfection and impossible ideals, maybe an attempt to recapture lost youth and freshness. It may also symbolize a desire for simplicity or the simple life.

Red: The color of strength, health, and vitality, Red is often the color chosen by someone outgoing, aggressive, vigorous and impulsive—or someone who would like to be! It goes with an ambitious nature but those who choose it can be abrupt at times, determined to get all they can out of life, quick to judge people and take sides. Red people are usually optimistic and can’t stand monotony; they are rather restless and not at all introspective, so they may be unaware of their own shortcomings. They find it hard to be objective and may blame others for any mishaps. Quiet people with a preference for red may feel the need for the warmth, strength and life-giving qualities of the color, or they blanket their true feelings under a sober exterior. Pink: This color embodies the gentler qualities of Red, symbolizing love and affection without passion. Women who prefer Pink tend to be maternal. Pink people tend to be charming and gentle, if a trifle indefinite.

Orange people may be inclined to dramatize a bit, and people notice them, but they are generally good-natured and popular. They can be a little fickle and vacillating, but on the whole they try hard to be agreeable. Orange is the color of youth, strength, fearlessness, curiosity and restlessness.

Yellow: The color of happiness, wisdom and imagination, Yellow is chosen by the mentally adventurous, searching for novelty and self-fulfillment. Yellow usually goes with a sunny and shrewd personality, with a good business head and a strong sense of humor. It is the color of intellectuality and all things to do with the mind. Yellow folks are usually clear and precise thinkers who have a good opinion of their own mental capacities and who have lofty ideals. They may at times tend to shun responsibility, preferring freedom of thought and action.

Green: The color of harmony and balance, Green symbolizes hope, renewal and peace, and is usually liked by the gentle and sincere. Greens are generally frank, community-minded people, fairly sociable but preferring peace at any price. Green people can be too self-effacing, modest and patient, so they may get exploited by others. They are usually refined, civilized and reputable.

Blue: Soft, soothing, compassionate and caring, Blue is the color of deliberation and introspection, conservatism and duty. Patient, persevering, conscientious, sensitive and self-controlled, Blues like to be admired for their steady character and wisdom. They are faithful, but are often worriers with somewhat inflexible beliefs and can be too cautious, and suspicious of flamboyant behavior.

Blue-Green: Exacting, discriminating, poised and attractive, the Blue-Green person tends to be sensitive, intellectual and refined, persevering and stable if rather detached. Blue-Greens have excellent taste, and are usually courteous and charming, capable but often refusing help or guidance.

Turquoise: Complex, imaginative and original, Turquoise people drive themselves hard and may be in a state of turmoil under their outwardly cool exterior.

Lavender: This is often chosen by a person who lives “on a higher plane,” who never notices anything sordid and who is always impeccably and beautifully dressed. Lavender people may be on a continual quest for culture and the refined things of life, high and noble causes but without the necessity of getting their hands dirty. A Lavender person is usually creative, charming, witty and civilized.

Purple:Purples are highly individual, fastidious, witty and sensitive, with a strong desire to be unique and different. Temperamental, expansive and artistic, a Purple person may become aloof and sarcastic when misunderstood. If you chose Purple, you tend to be unconventional, tolerant and dignified, likely to achieve positions of authority.

Brown: A Brown person has stamina and patience, tending to be very solid and substantial, conscientious, dependable, steady and conservative. Browns are not impulsive, and may be inarticulate and tactless but they love responsibility and are reliable and kindly. If you chose Brown, watch out for a tendency to be obstinate and inflexible.

Gray: The color of caution and compromise, diligent Grays search for composure and peace and often work hard without reward. Older Grays like life to run on an even keel with few ups and downs. Young Grays may be withdrawing from life and suppressing their personalities. Grays often have good business ability and tend to work too much.

Black: Dignified and impressive without being showy, Black people want to give the appearance of mystery, but their preference may also indicate a suppression of desires and worldly aims, suggesting hidden depths and inner longings.

Missing the Labyrinth

Twice a year I usually attended the Florida Pagan Gathering in Ocala as a part of the Labyrinth group, Seekers of the Wyrd. But this year I’m in Georgia and was unable to attend for a few personal reasons. I thought about the labyrinth last night knowing how much I will miss walking it with my Wicca family after we built it. It is an all day process to lay out the strands of lights just perfect, but is so beautiful and peaceful especially at night. So I did a search to see if there are any such things in Georgia and I found one.

The Dancing Bear Labyrinth. This is located at 366 Oakland Ave. SE, in Atlanta GA. It is a traditional 7 circuit looping Labyrinth, built with paving stones and plants, with a gazebo in the center. It is in the front yard of Bear Manor, near the Oakland Cemetery but is open to the public at all times for walking, free of charge. I can’t wait to visit!

The new strain of flu’s are in the news daily. We had Bird Flu ,Swine Flu and now H1N1. The government is telling everyone to get a flu shot, which is something I’m not comfortable with. So I turned to nature to see what she has to offer and remembered I have a recipe for “Four Thieves Oil".

There are many stories about where it came from and why or who created it. Here is one story: The Four Thieves Vinegar. Perfumers by day, robbers by night. Four men made a concoction of herbs and essential oils in a base of vinegar and would douse their body with this before they went our robbing plague victims. They had a pretty good track record of stealing riches until the King found out and captured them, forcing them to give up their secret weapon against the plague. The herbal ingredients were wormwood, meadowsweet, juniper berries, rosemary, camphor, sage, cinnamon and cloves in a base of white wine vinegar.

Current Thieves Oil Recipe : The essential oils in this blend have been noted for anti-bacterial, anti-viral and antiseptic properties while stimulating the immune system, circulation and the respiratory system. According to research at Weber State University, Thieves Oil was found to have a 99% kill rate against airborne bacteria when diffused.

Recipe :

FOUR THIEVES OIL 1 part eucalyptus 1 part rosemary 1 part cinnamon 1 part clove 1 part lemon
Must be mixed and stored in glass. Apply 1-2 drops of Four Thieves on the bottoms of the feet and on the nape of the neck. Apply under the arms and on the chest. Diffuse for 20 minutes or less at work or at home.You can also mix with olive oil if you feel too strong. I recommend 1 tablespoon of each in a 2 oz bottle then fill remainder with oil.

To use as a disinfectant spray: Add one tablespoon of blend to a spray bottle with one cup water and one cup apple cider vinegar .Spray on doorknobs, cabinet handle, showers, anything you want disinfected.
To use as a hand sanitizer: In a small bowl mix one drop of Cinnamon, clove, rosemary and eucalyptus oil with five drops of lemon. Mix this with one ounce of distilled water and ½ teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel. Store in a squeeze bottle or travel size container.

As reported by Anahad O'Onnor in the NY Times:
A recent study by a team of surgeons, for example, found that a solution made with cinnamon oil killed a number of common and hospital-acquired infections, like streptococcus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA. The study found it was just as effective as several antiseptics widely used in hospitals. Another study by French researchers in 2008 had similar results, showing that at concentrations of 10 percent or less, cinnamon oil was effective against Staphylococcus, E. coli and several antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria.

CAUTON: Due to the cinnamon and clove contained, one must be cautious--it may cause irritation if improperly used. Fair skinned, blue-eyed individuals, redheads and those who tend to sunburn easily need to heed and dilute Thieves Oil blend in a carrier oil like olive oil , almond or macadamia nut before applying to the skin. I have used 1-2 drops of Thieves on the bottom of my feet and also at the nape of the neck. Other places could be under the arms, and on the chest. I do not suggest using this in a bath or in a sauna! Diffuse for only short periods of time--20 minutes or less at work or at home.

The Dragonfly

Dragonfly eggs are laid within their territory near the water.
Once hatched, these nymphs will live nearly two years on the
bottom of streams and ponds. As they reach adulthood an
amazing thing occurs, they transform into dragonflies and
ascend to the air. In the air, they travel with wings that sparkle
with spectacular colors by reflecting and refracting light and
other colors. No insect or bird can maneuver as well as a
dragonfly. Flying up to 30 mph, they will twist, turn, move
up and down, fly backwards, even change directions
instantaneously and still will spot movement 40 feet away.

The power of Dragonfly lies in its ability to see around things
by looking from different angles. Using its ability to transform
colors and lights by reflecting and refracting them, Dragonfly
shows us that life, like light, can bend, shift, and adapt in
various ways, making life’s appearance never be what it
appears to be. Dragonfly’s magic shows us to see through
life’s illusions and find our true vision. It calls us to transform
within our lives and reminds us to feel deeply so we will have
the compassion necessary to help ourselves and others.

The Dragonfly lives a short life, and it knows it must live to the
fullest with what it has. This lesson is huge for each of us. When
you see a dragonfly, be aware of the gifts it has to offer and let’s
keep our waterways clean, so we can enjoy this wonderful creature
for generations to come.
